We offer all sorts of art activities and a range of different materials from vinyl T-shirt printing to sewing, canvas painting to clay sculpting, there is something for everyone to participate in. Art practitioner Yasmin Long ensures that activities are tailored to the needs of each young person and tries to link themes and art processes to the interests and goals of each individual involved.
Crafts
Within the Inspire project we have an arts and crafts sector offering a wide variety of exciting activities to young people.
Our art studio is situated within the Inspire Centre fully equipped with everything needed to explore and express oneself creatively. This is a space where we welcome messiness, where new ideas can flourish and where experimentation and making mistakes is encouraged.
Building Confidence
As well as gaining creative skills and knowledge, there are strong therapeutic benefits to taking part in art activities while building relationships with the wider world. Our participants have not only shown but have themselves reported huge improvements in their mental health and overall feeling of wellbeing whilst taking part in weekly art sessions.
When working with our young people we are always overjoyed to see the noticeable developments in confidence, social skills, problem solving, critical thinking and independence as well as a reported decrease in feelings of stress, anxiety and loneliness.
Helping to build positive relationships
Forging community links
The arts and crafts sector has links with the community facilitating workshops and displaying art works for community events such as Blaenavon Heritage Day, Cwmbran Christmas parade, Pontypool Christmas Market, Blaenavon WW2 VJ Day and has been involved in projects with Greenmeadow Community farm and Torfaen Play.
We strive to build confidence in our young participants and encourage them to come along and get involved in the community to widen their experience and improve their employability prospects.
